A good wartime example of the black issue kit bag as used in the Great War, marked up M2/076874 Serjeant James B Mc Connochie of the Army Service Corps Mechanised Transport. His service record from 1914 states the prefix M2 before his number which is believed to indicate Enlisted Special Reserve for New Armies, this would make sense given his rank.
The bag itself is complete with drawstring and inner flap, though does not appear to have any legible stamps. The body is inked 'J. B. Mc Connochie M.T. ASC 076874' in white. The body of the bag is in good overall shape aside from one small hole, with only service related wear otherwise. The base has suffered from heavy use, with a number of holes, though they appear to have only gone through the reinforcing of the base and not through the main body. There is evidence of a travel label having been glued to the bottom, though it could possibly be paint residue from a unit identifying mark. The eyelets and securing cord appear in good overall condition.
A lovely early wartime attributed example.
