1903 Pattern Mounted Water bottle & Cradle

Code: 10359

A good example of the Great War enamelled water bottle, complete with dark coloured wool cover and 1903 pattern bandolier equipment cradle. The cradle is maker marked 'GEO.W. HATHAWAY WALSALL' and appears to be dated either 1915 or 1918. The stamping is thick and therefore rather difficult to read.

The bottle itself is the correct wartime pattern with the top seam, stopper and string. The wool cover appears in good condition aside from some general grubbiness and wear. The bottle does not remove from the cradle easily and no effort has been made to force it. Therefore it seems fair to assume that these two have been together for a long time and used in conjunction. The leather cradle is in good clean condition, as are the tinned rivets. The leather is dry and stiff but there appears to be no cracking or serious scuffing. The webbing strap has some grubbiness and rsut marking, whilst the metalwork has some rusting likely resulting from poor storage.

Overall a good example, that has likely been together since its service life.
