A nice early war dated entrenching tool and first issue carrier, complete and dated 1915.
The tool itself is on good solid shape with only minor wear and pitting as to be expected. It appears to be maker marked C Hollington and is dated 1915, there are also several small issue stamps including a broad arrow.
The carrier is the first issue type with a press stud closure as opposed to a buckle, this feature changed in mid 1916. The interior off-white lining is maker marked Mills Equipment Company and also dated 1915. A hand written name can be made out alongside the stamps, though it is difficult to read. It has been blanco'd and there is some overall wear. The right hand rivet has pulled through the front, though it is retained at the rear there are some lengths of frayed webbing strands visible from the front.
Overall a great complete matched set, the carriers in particular are becoming difficult to find.
