Good working example of the RAF 'snail' whistle as used by RAF and Commonwealth aircrew to signal after ditching in the sea. This type superseded the tube type whistle as issued earlier in the war.
These would often be worn secured to the hook of the RAF blouse, within easy reach in emergency. These were Air Ministry issue and are stamped as such.
This example is intact and in solid working order, with only some minor loss of the chrome to the metal and minor surface rust to the securing ring.
The Air Ministry and stores stampings to the body are clear.
