A Great War Victory Medal, complete with a pin back medal ribbon bar. The medal is named to 4149 Pte D. J. E. Carter of the Monmouthshire Regiment.
The medal itself is unusually fitted with the War Medal ribbon as opposed to the corresponding Victory ribbon. The medal bar bears both ribbons, it is therefore thought that after the war the other medal was separated along with the Victory ribbon.
The ribbon is faded but has obviously been mounted at some point, the medal itself has been left in an un-polished as found condition.
Some cursory research has revealed a reference to Pte Carter in 1914 with the service number '4149'. He is also listed as having the service number '15891' also with the Monmothshire Regiment and then later serving with The Gold Coast Regiment with the number '267775'. This set is indeed worthy of further research.
