Rather a rare inert 47mm shell, manufactured by Hotchkiss and used by the Japanese Navy during the war between Russia and Japan between 1904 and 1905.
This shell bears both British manufacture stamps as well as Japanese issue stamps to the base and a Japanese Navy anchor stamp just below where the steel shell head meets the brass.
The casing of the shell has some verdigris and minor denting to it, while the shell head has some minor surface rust to it. Rest assured the shell has been made inert as can be seen in the images.
